USE AND MAINTENANCE
To maintain the writing instruments and keep them working for longer, Leonardo Officina italiana invite buyers to care for them regularly following some instructions.
FOUNTAIN PEN
HOW TO CLEAN THE PEN BODY AND CAP
To remove any stains or fingerprints from the resin or celluloid sections of the pen, we recommend using a soft, slightly damp cloth. Don’t use alcohol or other solvents on celluloid, ebonite or resin to avoid damaging the surfaces.
We recommend to use a microfiber cloth (such as the one used to clean glasses) to wipe clean the resin sections and metal finishes, including the nib.
HOW TO CLEAN THE NIB
Clean nibs regularly under warm running water without using any other liquids or cleaning agents.
To clean piston-fill fountain pens, submerge the nib in warm water and twist the blind-cap to fill and empty the reservoir several times until the water runs clear.
For nib units fitted with ebonite feeds, fill and empty the reservoir with ink twice before first use and after cleaning.
NIB REPLACEMENT
Leonardo Officina Italian gives the customers the right to free replacement of the original nib if it doesn’t meet the writing requirements. You have to return the nib in new condition and contact the customer service. Customers are responsible for the return shipping costs.
Please note: Most of Leonardo Officina Italiana collections have nib, feed and screw-in ABS housing.
Gold nib with ebonite feed are friction fit. Please take into account these differences before requesting a replacement of the nib.
HOW TO DISASSEMBLE LEONARDO PISTON FILLER
Leonardo Officina Italiana offers the possibility of buying the piston wrench
MAINTENANCE OF THE RUBBER PART OF PISTON
You can use Leonardo silicon grease for lubricating the rubber part of piston:
HOW TO REFILL FOUNTAIN PEN
Cartridge Fountain Pen: Unscrew the grip section from the barrel. Remove any empty cartridge. Insert the new ink cartridge and press down lightly. Wait for ink to come out of the nib. Screw the grip section back into the barrel
Converter Fountain Pen: Unscrew the grip section from the barrel. Insert the converter screwing it down firmly. Turn the converter anticlockwise until it stops. Dip the entire nib into the ink bottle and turn the converter clockwise until the chamber is completely full. Remove the nib from the ink and twist again the converter half a turn anticlockwise, letting a little ink drip out to release air. Wipe the nib clean with a soft cloth to remove excess ink.
Piston-fill Fountain Pen: Twist the blind-cap anticlockwise to allow the rubber part to go down until it stops. Dip the entire nib and a part of the grip (3/4 mm are enough) into the ink bottle. Draw ink into the pen, twist the blindcap clockwise until it stops. Remove the nib from the ink and twist the blindcap half a turn anticlockwise, letting a little ink drip out to release air. Clean the nib with a damp cloth to remove excess ink.
HOW TO CARRY THE FOUNTAIN PEN
To avoid ink leaks, we recommend to keep the reservoir full and carry the pen vertical, nib up.
